My Clinical Approach: I am a cognitive behavioral therapist who works from a holistic perspective. This means I view the individual as a whole person. I work with the client to make the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behavior and then develop a plan to restructure thinking errors and resulting destructive behavior. When I start to develop treatment goals it is essential we not only address emotions and negative thought patterns but we look at stressors, sleep routines, activity level, nutrition, as well as, family and social connections. I do not believe therapy needs to be an exhaustive process. In fact, cognitive behavioral therapy is short-term and goal oriented. Specific techniques and concepts are taught during each session and homework is utilized to put the restorative plan to action. I believe in working collaboratively with family, medical professionals, and educators when deemed clinically appropriate and with written client consent.
Areas Of Treatment: I focus my work in the treatment of young people from ages 8 to 22 years. I specialize in anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, acute and chronic stress disorders and life adjustment concerns. I do work with adults over the age of 22 years who may be experiencing a spectrum of postpartum health concerns such as postpartum anxiety and postpartum obsessive compulsive disorder.
Home Based Services: I am happy to offer home based services for my clients and their family. I come to you in the privacy of your own home. Not only does it ensure confidentiality and convenience, it is an opportunity for me to address family dynamics in a manner I could not replicate in an office. When a child or teen is having difficulty this does not occur in a vacuum. The entire family system is impacted. Home based services allows me the opportunity as your therapist to address parenting difficulties, family communication, individual stressors and appropriate boundary implementation in a setting where you are typically most comfortable.
Online Services: Busy schedules can often hinder someone from receiving the therapeutic treatment he/she may need. Online services give flexibility and convenience to the client. The same confidentiality rules apply as in a typical office setting only you are in the comfort of your own home. I have found this avenue of practice essential to work with my college clients throughout the state of Kansas.
School Based Observations: If your child is experiencing difficulty in the school setting, I offer school based observations to advocate for your child’s clinical needs. I will work with the parent, teachers and educational support staff to ensure your child has an appropriate treatment strategy to address any emotional, cognitive, social and/or behavioral concerns. This may include but will not be limited to:
- Working with your child’s school to modify certain aspects of the classroom that may be contributing to his or her difficulties.
- Working with your child to learn more effective ways to cope and manage social and educational stressors.
- Working with your child’s team to address the implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or the need for such support.
